Elton John surprised fans with a sneak peek of his upcoming single with Britney Spears.

During an impromptu performance at a Cannes restaurant, John sang a portion of the modernized version of his 1971 hit, Tiny Dancer, that he recorded with Spears.

Spears teamed up with John to record Hold Me Closer, a reworking of the singing legend's iconic hit.

Perched behind the DJ at the La Guerite restaurant in the south of France, John delighted fans who cheered wildly when the opening refrains of the well-known song started.

But in a twist, John revealed it was his new song, Hold Me Closer, due for release on Friday, August 26.

"Britney Spears, Elton John, let's go," he called out over the music, before singing the opening verse of the track.

John bopped along to the dance track and revealed the verse lyrics were different to the original and it seemed the pair were singing in unison in the recorded song.

Tiny Dancer's beloved original chorus remained and John showed he's still got an impressive vocal range as he belted out the hit.

Excited diners crowded around the DJ booth to film the world famous star who was dressed in a matching summer shirt and shorts.

John posted the video to Twitter and captioned the post: "Sneak peak of Hold Me Closer —out this Friday."

He completed the post with a rose emoji—Britney's go-to on social media—and a rocket emoji, symbolizing him thanks to his song Rocketman.

Those emojis also feature on the cover art for the highly anticipated single which both artists confirmed in July.

The famous singers met at a recording studio in Beverly Hills, California, to lay down vocals for the Andrew Watt-produced track.

The song apparently had been on Spears' mind for quite some time.

On October 21, 2015, the pop star took to Twitter to share a message with her millions of followers that read: "Tiny Dancer #EltonAlways @eltonofficial."

The Elton collaboration marks Spears' first single since 2016's Slumber Party and her first release since her 13-year conservatorship ended in November.

She had refused to record new music or tour over the last few years of the controversial conservatorship her family had put her under.

In damning testimony in June, Spears alleged that she was made to perform, take medication and wear a contraceptive device against her will—the latter preventing her from realizing her desire to have a baby with her now husband, Sam Asghari.

She met Asghari on the set of the music video for "Slumber Party", with the pair tying the knot on June 9 this year.

In mid-July, Spears teased an edgier version of her 1998 breakout hit single "...Baby One More Time" in a video posted to Instagram.

The mother of two revealed she had been pushing for a number of years to re-record the hugely popular track but wasn't able to because of the conservatorship.

"I haven't shared my voice in an extremely long time...may be too long," the Louisiana-raised star captioned the clip.
