DELPHOS — Megan Etzkorn has been offering her artistic gifts to the Delphos Senior Citizen Center through painting events for several years. Now those passing by the facility on Suthoff Street will see her talents on the side of the center’s garage across from the main building.

The mural, once finished, will be reminiscent of the murals in downtown Delphos and bring memories of the olden days, according to Etzkorn.

“They found a photo of the bandstand and I was talking to both sets of my grandparents about Waterworks Park and what it used to look like and they remembered the fountain. My great-aunt found a photo of the fountain and I just added that today,” Etzkorn said Saturday morning. “They were also thinking about how ‘woody’ Waterworks Park used to be so there will be lots of trees.”

“Hopefully from the road it will look like your are looking back into the park in the olden days,” she added.

Etzkorn is working on two other murals as well: The the parking lot at Franklin Elementary to complement their Century Trail around the lot; and she just finished a mural on the garage of a home.

“The Allen County Master Gardeners have also asked me to paint a mural on the side of Eagle Print’s building by their garden on Main Street,” Etzkorn said. “I’m putting up what will look like windows and we’ll screw them into the building. I also contacted Michael Mesker with the Firetruck Museum and hopefully I’ll be doing something on that building.”

Having her work showcased in her hometown has been a dream of Etzkorn’s.

“I’ve been telling my husband that when I was growing up I always wanted to put my mark on the town and beautify it in any way that I can so it’s been very gratifying this summer,” she said.

Etzkorn was an art teacher at LLC for five years until she started her family. For now, she enjoys her contracted work and raising her two boys.
